0032 Indian Prophecy [10 April 1997]

Author’s note: I really hope that this doesn’t offend any Native Americans. This was written during a time in which my mother, and by extension, me, were learning about native beliefs and history, and this is a result of that time in my life.

We saw the lightning flash,
We heard the thunder roar.
We saw an eagle fly,
Tell us what’s in store?

Indian Prophecy,
Tell us true.
What the spirits
Said to you.

What will come
Of the white buffalo calf?
Where will it lead us
Point with your staff.

We hear the chants
Of long ago,
To tell us where to go.

We see through the tears,
Of a million people.
Being falsely led
Through a Christian steeple.

Our children taught
The white man’s words.
To forget their heritage
To follow the herds.

What is there in store?
Show us the way.
We trust in you
Not to lead us astray.

Indian Prophecy,
What have you learned?
Where can we go
And where can we turn?

We have lost our lands,
And lost our past.
The only way to go
Is down a dangerous path.

Indian Prophecy,
Tell us true,
Where can we go
And what can we do.
