Author’s note: The “lover” in this poem has a name the same as a person I went to high school with. Have no fear, I used his name only as inspiration in this poem.
Dear Cody,
Never have I known,
Such virility before.
Only have I known sloths
And brigands.
I understand you are a free spirit,
But why has it strayed to me?
My heart jumps
Whenever my eyes say they’ve seen you.
And quite a dashing beau you would make,
If only you could see me, as well.
I fear that a woman as myself is,
Isn’t to your liking.
How can I answer that?
Or for that matter,
How can I compete with
The ladies that certainly outshine me.
Alas, I fear
That as long as beauty overcomes all else,
Never will you turn
Those beautiful hazel eyes to mine.
