Author’s note: When I was younger, I meandered back and forth between religion, agnosticism, and atheism. This poem was written during such a time in which I was trying to be Christian.
The other day,
I knew not that which spoke.
Or whether,
It was a whom.
Lost was I among
The flowering fields,
So unused to them
Was I.
Never had I experienced
Such a feeling before.
It came upon me
Like a wave that crashed upon a shore.
Where had it come from?
This awareness that woke me from my stupor.
Whom had called my name?
With the power of all that ever was.
Today I realized,
In a flash of lightning
That it was God
Who had called to me.
He called to me,
For I had been lost to the winds
And he needed me back
In the place where I had been.
Then I knew where I was,
I was in my own world
I was standing free,
And God was there by my side.
