364 Lament [24 December 2000]

My feet move me through the air,
weightless I feel as the longing song of a flute
whispers its words to those who listen.
It strikes a chord in my heart,
where melody ensues,
filling my entire soul.
My eyes close,
I move in my own dance
to patterns only I know.
My heart sings with this flute,
echoing its soulful music,
feeling its mournful notes as they fill my ears.
I try to see your face,
succeeding I look into your eyes,
remembering your smile,
your careless hair,
your arms as they held me tight.
I dance for you, my love,
the one I will long for the rest of my existence.
I will love you until I am not.
Somehow I feel you are close by,
dancing alongside me,
I can still feel your hands
guiding me,
caressing me.
My heart calls for you,
not knowing you are gone,
hopeful that you will return.
I come to a stop,
standing in the dark of the moon,
my face glistening with tears,
listening to the mournful cry of the flute,
as if it too loved you as much as I.
Return to me, O Beloved,
silence this song as it plays on in my soul.
