369 Night Deep [21 January 2001]

The night deep,
black as space.
Silence echoes within
the boundaries of this sleepy place,
a mysterium created as a blanket of fog
is pulled over the countryside.
Within this blind quiet do I rest,
among the ghostly fields,
the crickets not even daring to make a sound this night,
for fear of wakening those who hide in its shadows,
as I hide within the folds of my lover’s arms.
There’s a quiet peace that accompanies these nights
lost in the embrace of he who protects me from the demons.
On a night like this I am comforted
by the single fact that he is finally here
that on these nights no longer
do I have to face them alone
be it moon-bright,
or soft-clouded.
His breathing my proof that he exists
here with me,
his skin warming mine
as the air outside cools the ground.
So close,
no void between them.
This peace is what he brings to me
the only man to do so.
I close my eyes surrounded by the night in his arms,
safe from any on a night like this.
