the night sky sparkles
with the light of a million stars
as does your smile
when you see me
the way your eyes do
when I talk to you
the sun gleams
in its sapphire home
bringing light to everything below
like you do
when you walk
into a room
but do you feel for me
the way I do for you?
I cannot tell
nor do I really want
to know the answer
if it is no
my heart could not stand
another crack in it’s fragile casing
it seems I am the only one
whom no one has cared for
the way I do them
what can I do?
I can’t make them
I don’t want to
you might be the last
I put any hope in
for my heart
would most likely shatter
if the truth be
not what it desires
what I desire
and that is love
simple and complete as that
where you continue to look at me
with those beautiful eyes of yours
where I awake to the morning light
seeing you there beside me
breathing softly
your hair careless against the pillow
for the rest of my life
is that too much to ask?
