I awake to the morning light
a sigh captures my attention
I turn, quite startled
to see you
sleeping next to me
arms wrapped around me
as you slumber
my eyes snap open
as I realize that
the dream I had last night
had been not a dream
but the beautiful reality
I now find myself facing
I settle back down
my eyes still reluctant to stay open
basking in your warmth
that surrounds me
you wake
rumbling a ‘good morning’
that I can feel
through your chest
against my back
a smile spreads across my face
with the happiness
that single, mundane thing brings me
I turn in your arms
facing your sleepy visage
your eyes half open
a small smile upon your lips
I lean in to kiss
your beautiful mouth
with my good morning
and just gaze at you
from my side of the pillow
thinking if this is still a dream
then may I never wake
