I know
that when you see my face
that when your beautiful eyes
take all of me in
in my experience
you will go
like all the rest
it’s not even funny anymore
how much I care for you
as much as I want to believe
that your feelings will
overlook my appearance
but I must do this
I must show you who I am
so that my heart
does not entrench itself
anymore than it is
and let you go
