552 The Other Way [30 July 2003]

I met a girl the other day
quite the opposite of me.
We sat comparing satchels,
going through the contents within.
There was quite a difference.
She carried only what she needed
while I carried everything needed
plus a few pounds of extra stuff.

She struck me as on the go,
no time for things that I thought about.
Moving on her course without straying,
While I, lost in fairyland,
With my head in the clouds.
Wandering about gazing around
At each and every new thing
That crosses my path.

Inspiration struck and I tried to be like her.
Alas, I am who I am.
For within a week
I could not stand being without
The things I had in my possession .
Although I have scaled down a little,
I have met this standard halfway . . .
well, okay maybe a quarter of the way.
What can I say?
I am who I am and I need what I need.
I have to be myself,
yet all the while constantly refining that definition.
